The disappearing Thuggee....

Okay, so, on Willie and Short Round's side of the bridge they're (kind of) ambushed by Mola Ram and about five or six Thuggee guards. All but one of them go out onto the bridge to get Indy; one remains with Mola Ram to hold onto Willie and Short Round, right? Right.

Then Mola Ram pulls a knife and orders the two out onto the bridge. Whereupon the Thuggee lets go of them, and Mola Ram, Willie and Short Round all walk out onto the bridge, but the guard stays on the cliff. He's clearly seen in the background just standing there (he's apparently smart enough not to go out onto the bridge) up until the point where Indiana cuts the rope.

Then, he just sort of disappears. Where did he go?

I'd imagine he'd be up at the top fretting over whether or not Mola Ram will climb up successfully. He could've at least dropped rocks down on Willie and Short Round when they were kicking his boss in the head. Instead he just sort of....well, ceases to exist.

A wizard did it.

Seriously though, it's just a goof. I've noticed it before myself. Maybe he ran away and joined the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword.

I think Abner is the answer to any problem in the Indiana Jones saga.

"How'd he stay on that sub all the way to the island!?" "Abner let him in"

"How did Indy not fall with that tank!?" "Abner jumped in and saved him."

"Why does Indy's gun keep changing during the gunfight in the Raven?!" "Because while Indy is firing, Abner is reloading his other gun JUST off-camera"

Best answer so far. :D
How 'bout this one?;)

Taljinder Singh, a marksman in the 11th Poonas (and a Lee-Enfield crackshot),
was ordered to fire on the nearest, visible enemy. The disappearing Thug was
killed by his bullet to the back and fell off the cliff. Since the shot was made
at the exact time as the SNAP of the bridge, Singh's gunfire went unheard.

Side note:
While being of no relation to The Maharajah Zalim Singh, Taljinder was the son of
Mahindra Singh, a British sepoy who once held the map to the Eye of the Peacock/
Lao Che diamond. Mahindra was shot & killed, point-blank, by a 1-eyed German soldier
at 10:58am on November 11, 1918 (Armistice Day).

Again can't sleep and just watched it. It clearly shows the Thuggee behind Mola Ram after Willie and Short Round are forced out onto the bridge. Four Thuggee advance from that side towards Indy. So from the middle to that side it is Indy then the four Thuggee, Short Round, Willie, Mola Ram, then the "disappearing Thuggee. The other side has five Thuggee. After Jones cuts the bridge all five of the Thuggee from the other side are seen plunging to their doom.
On the Willie side Mola Ram is seen diving for the deck and grabs on to the boards. The Thuggee closest to Indy on the Willie/Short Round side also plummets. Seen on the falling bridge still clinging are Indy, the three other Thuggee, Short Round, Willie, and Mola Ram. If you look very closely the disappearing Thuggee is also falling right next to the cliff face behind Mola Ram. He must have ventured at least a few steps past the edge of the cliff onto the bridge. He falls in the shadow of the bridge and is hard to see but is there. As the bridge smacks into the cliff face three more (where did those guys come from?) Thuggee are dislodged leaving two plus Mola Ram. As Mola Ram attempts to climb he falls and knocks another Thuggee off. He then forces the remaining one to fall aiming him at Jones. When Mola Ram finally falls trying to catch the stone the only ones left hanging on are Indy, Short Round and Willie. Out of ten Thuggee that venture out onto the bridge including the disappearing one, twelve are seen falling before Mola Ram takes a dive? It is not a question of a missing Thuggee it is a mystery of addition how ten can become twelve.
