Indiana Jones and the Culture War

Man, isn't it brutal out there watching Indy 5 get dragged around in the middle of the terrible fandom culture war?

How many of you are seriously worried, as I am, that this could at the very least put a damper on the film critically and especially financially through no fault of its own?

In the film, Indy is dealing with the "time's they are a' changing." In real life too.

I’ve been worried about this in some form or another for five years now. Honestly I’ve rather gotten immune to much of the click-bate, gossip, negativity etc.

I’ve been one of Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’s biggest defenders for 14 years. If I can handle all the backlash that entailed, I can handle this. Let’s just appreciate the moment that we’re FINALLY getting an Indiana Jones 5, it’s been filmed and it’s getting released!

To 2023: the year I we finally get Indy 5 and the year I stopped using social media in favor of enjoyed the pleasure of the real world(hopefully).

Because Indy is an old heritage character, and the people who fall for this stuff are in their 30s/40s/50s etc. the YouTube vultures see their target to try and incense people in order to get clicks and cash. It’s so tiresomely predictable.

One of the Bond producers said that he thought the initial (totally fabricated) bad press about Daniel Craig actually did cost Casino Royale at the box office, even though it was still a massive hit. I kind of wonder if Lucasfilm shouldn’t be fighting back a bit. I know Mr Mangold has, and all power to him.

Indeed. Let’s savour the moment, because this is it.

Well for whatever it's worth, I'm in my twenties, and I have always felt that Indy was an underrated and largely forgotten character in the eyes of my peers. This series has always lived in the shadows of other franchises, Star Wars especially since both are George Lucas' brainchildren, and I have just had to learn to accept that nobody around me in the real world is going to care to the extent that I do about these films (even moreso than my parents). As far as I'm concerned, this movie is for people like us, because for everyone else, it'll always be Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Transformers, Star Wars, John Wick and the Marvel Jokes-In-Every-Five-Sentences-of-Dialogue Cinematic Universe. Or sports and politics. Everybody around me really seems to prefer talking sports and politics.

I'm very surprised with how many new YouTube videos are made every day criticising negatively the film. They share more or less the same titles: "are the rumours true?!“," Indy 5 goes WOKE"...
They did the same with every Star Wars film and most Marvel movies,Look at the stupid,Misogynistic crap they said about Captain Marvel and Brie Larson.Absolute garbage. It's a lot like Q anon.. Purposely misinforming people for clicks...

Meanwhile, The Junkman,Who loves to make fun of Doomcock and his ilk,is calling these asshats out and is putting up a good amount of money if they can prove that the fabled test screening actually happened..

Of course he knows his money is safe . But it's always fun seeing these idiots getting called out.

At the end of the day, it's people who are passionate about Indiana Jones. We only get one more film out of this franchise, with Harrison, and they want it to count. I can't fault them for that. Especially after what we've seen happen with Star Wars and James Bond.

You also have to think in terms of the long-term narrative. I'm more comforted by talk of a troubled production and "six different endings were shot!" Because expectations can easily be shattered here and the movie has more than enough runway to blow people away. As opposed to... everyone crowing about how f'ing amazing this movie is going to be for a year+, and then it underwhelms.

Lol you know it's funny, a few weeks ago I stated that I guaranteed Tyrone Magnus would mention the "rumors" during his trailer reaction and sure enough that's exactly what he did. These people are morons.
Totally agree, morons is a perfect word for these guys, I started watching some ‘’reactions’’ on youtube but I just gave up when a lot of them started with the bs-rumors and they became kinda negative… 😕 I decided not to let these asshats (another perfect word for them) ruin my exitement for the movie 😊 Is it just me or do some of these reaction-videos not seem entirely genuine? Almost like they’ve already seen the trailer at least once before their reaction and adjust their ‘’performance’’ based on these rumors about the film?
